Fact or Fallacy?

Information is of vital importance for every undertaking. It is a tool that helps us decide, evaluate and implement. Therefore, any information that is misunderstood is very critical and it may lead to negative results.
In this section, let us discuss whether or not the information majority of the corn farmers believed to be true, are pure facts or just mere fallacies.
·

SInformation: Successive planting of the same hybrid is not advisable,                    therefore it is recommended to switch into other hybrids

-      This information states that if you plant the same hybrid, say for example P3774YR, for three straight cropping seasons, there will be less tolerance to diseases and pests in the next cropping. Thus, planting of hybrids of other brands will address the problem.

Yes it is true that successive planting of the same hybrid will result into less tolerance in the next cropping. However, switching into other corn hybrids will NOT address the problem. Planting the same crop over and over again even if it is of a different variety and brand will still deplete the nutrients necessary for plant growth.

It is advised to plant other crops such as peanuts or mung bean after harvest. These crops condition the soil. The mung bean, as a leguminous plant, is one of the best soil conditioners because it aids in nitrogen fixation.

Also, another advice is to practice or implement a fallow period. After harvest, let your soil rest for a period of time for the disease cycle to be cut. Pests that rely on your corn plant will also die because of the absence of the host. In that way, the soil will also be ready for the next cropping.

With these things put in mind and placed on the field, your Pioneer Hybrid seed in the next cropping will be at its best state and will surely give you a bountiful harvest.

So therefore, the said information is all but a FALLACY
